Hibiscus Moscheutos is a very beautiful flower grown in 4-9(USDA). Planting time. In spring or fall, as long as there is no danger of frost. Sow. Sow seeds 1/4" deep in the pot, keeping the soil lightly moist and at a temperature of 80-85 degrees F until germination. Keep the seedlings evenly moist. Germination will take 15-30 days. Sun. These plants prefer full sun (at least 6 hours daily). In hot climates, it may be necessary to provide some afternoon shade to prevent scorching of the foliage. Hibiscus moscheutos, the rose mallow, swamp rose-mallow, crimsoneyed rosemallow, or eastern rosemallow, is a species of flowering plant in the family Malvaceae. It is a cold-hardy perennial wetland plant that can grow in large colonies. The hirsute leaves are of variable morphology, but are commonly deltoidal in shape with up to three lobes. It is found in wetlands and along the riverine systems of the eastern United States from Texas to the Atlantic states, its territory extending northward to southern Ontario. Propagating Rose Mallow Plants and Growing them from Seed The hull of Hibiscus seeds need to be clipped or the seeds can be soaked in warm water until they sink, before sowing. Sow seeds directly in the garden where they will grow, in from spring up until two months before the first killing frost. Start seeds indoors for 8-10 weeks before moving to the garden. Maintain a temperature in the growing medium of 70°-75° F. until germination which takes 15-30 days.
